Clay
While meditating on clay, I became curious about the difference between clay and sand, so I looked for the difference. The difference between clay and sand is said to be determined by the size of the particles. Clay refers to soil with a diameter of 1/16 mm or less, and when it is larger than 1/16 mm, it is called sand. It is strange that the same material, starting from the rock, behaves like two different substances with different properties depending on the degree of breakage. Clay has a viscosity suitable for a potter's use, whereas sand flows down between the fingers when held in the hand, which makes it unusable for a potter. Small particles of clay need an adhesive to stick together, and water is that adhesive. For water to have sufficient adhesion, two objects must come together and have a large contact area at the same time, and the small grains of clay meet this requirement. Just as the difference between clay and sand is determined by the degree of breakage of the grains, I think that my faith will have a completely different spirituality depending on how broken my ego is. It is because the true degree of brokenness in the presence of the Lord's grace determines whether I become a clay suitable for the Lord's use or a useless sand for the Lord's kingdom. Water is what gives clay adhesiveness and proper plasticity at the same time. In my spirituality, the water I need to make the spiritual clay pliable is the tears of repentance I shed before the Lord, the tears I shed because of grace, and the tears I shed for my brothers and sisters.
If there is one greatest masterpiece, shattered and molded by skilled potters, it is the cross. Jesus, who gave up his body in obedience so that it could be completely split, became the true clay, and the holy spirit seeped like water between the works of Jesus on the way of the cross and filled it with love and mercy, which is the presence of the Holy Spirit. I believe that the perfect work of God, who became the potter who made the cross, completed the cross.
I am ashamed that I am still useless to the Lord's kingdom because I am not broken enough. I made a cross out of clay on a small rock. I hope that I would be broken a little more, shed more tears, and become a little more like Jesus so that the Lord can use me someday.
Jeremiah 18:4. But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him.
진흙
진흙에 대해 묵상하다가 진흙과 모래의 차이가 궁금해져서 그 차이를 찾아 보았습니다. 진흙과 모래의 차이는 그 입자의 크기에 의해 결정된다고 합니다. 진흙은 1/16 mm 이하인 흙들을 말하며 그 이상일 때는 모래라고 불린다고 합니다. 바위에서 출발한 같은 성분이지마는 그 부서진 정도에 따라 다른 성질을 지닌 두 개의 상이한 물질처럼 행동하게 된다니 신기합니다. 진흙은 토기장이가 쓰기에 합당한 점성을 지니고 있는 반면 모래는 손에 쥐면 손가락 사이로 흘러내려 도공이 쓸 수 없는 성질을 지니고 있습니다. 진흙의 작은 입자들이 서로 붙으려면 접착체가 필요한데 물이 바로 그 접착제로 작용합니다. 물이 충분한 접착력을 발휘하려면 두 물체가 가까이 접근함과 동시에 많은 접촉 면적을 지녀야 하는데 진흙의 작은 알갱이들이 이러한 조건을 충족시키게 합니다. 이러한 진흙과 모래의 차이가 그 알갱이의 깨어진 정도에 의해 결정되 듯 저의 신앙도 자아의 부서짐에 따라 전혀 다른 영성을 보유하게 된다는 생각을 하게 됩니다. 주님의 은혜 앞에서의 진정한 깨어진 정도에 따라 주님이 쓰시기에 합당한 진흙이 되든지 주님의 나라에 쓸모 없는 모래가 되는 것이 결정되기 때문입니다. 진흙에게 접착력과 동시에 적당한 가소성을 부여하는 것이 물인데 저의 영성에서 영적 진흙을 진흙답게 하기위해 필요한 물은 주님앞에서 흘린 회개의 눈물, 은혜에 감동하여 흘린 눈물, 형제 자매를 위해 흘린 눈물 들로 설명 될 수 있다고 생각됩니다.
완전히 부서져서 능숙한 토기장이의 손에 빚어짐으로 만들어진 가장 위대한 걸작이 있다면 십자가가 아닌가 합니다. 완벽히 쪼개지도록 순종으로 자기 몸을 내어 주신 예수님이 참 진흙이 되시고, 십자가의 길을 가시는 예수님의 행적 사이 사이에 물처럼 스며들어 사랑과 자비로 채우심이 성령의 임재하심이며, 예수님의 몸을 철저히 파상하셔서 십자가를 빚어내신 토기장이 되신 하나님의 완벽한 역사가 십자가를 완성했다고 생각하기 때문입니다.
더 깨어지지 못해 아직도 주님 나라에 쓸모 없는 제 모습이 부끄럽습니다. 조금 더 부서지고 제가 채워야 할 눈물의 분량도 더 채워서 언젠가는 주님이 쓰실 만한 예수님을 조금은 닮은 진흙이 되기를 소망해 보며 진흙을 이겨 자그마한 바위 위에 진흙으로 나마 십자가를 만들어 보았습니다.
