Sunflower
I had a chance to appreciate a sunflower painting drawn by an acquaintance. Looking at sunflower pictures, I became interested in sunflowers and started looking for information about sunflowers. Then I thought of Gogh, a painter famous for his sunflower paintings, and I looked at an anecdote about his life. I read the story of Gogh living a difficult life because he could not sell even a single painting. Looking at Van Gogh's paintings, I came to think of the connection between his seven sunflower paintings and his favorite sun. I thought that Gogh's passion for pursuing light and sun was captured in sunflower paintings that always follow the sun. Because I couldn't afford to buy his paintings, I went to a local flower store instead and bought 15 sunflowers, like the 15 sunflowers in his masterpiece sunflower painting, and put them in a vase at home according to Gogh's painting. For the record, I took a picture of my sunflowers in a vase.
Looking at the picture of sunflowers, I was able to contemplate a few things about sunflowers. First, I thought of a sunflower moving towards the light without stopping for a moment. As a person who believes in Jesus, who is the true light, I meditated on how my life can become more fruitful. If I look to the Lord always like a sunflower following the sun, I would bear abundant seeds like sunflower in the fall. Second, I thought of a sunflower that looks west following the setting sun at twilight, but moves to the east when the sun rises during the night, preparing to meet the sun again in the east in the morning. I thought that the sunflower was teaching me that I should look to the Lord more and prepare to meet the Lord in a difficult time like the darkness of my life. Lastly, the sun has a time to rise and a time to set, but the light of God and Jesus never sets. I thought it was a such a blessing to have a promise for the eternal light. It was an opportunity for me to hope more for the kingdom of heaven, where God and Jesus became the true light and no longer need any other lamps or sunlight.
Revelation 22:5. There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever.
해바라기
아시는 분이 그리신 해바라기 그림을 감상할 기회가 있었습니다. 해바라기 그림을 보다보니 해바라기에 대해 관심이 생겨 해바라기에 대한 정보를 찾아보게 되었습니다. 그러던 중 해바라기 그림으로 유명한 화가 고호가 생각이 나서 그의 일생에 관한 일화를 살펴보게 되었습니다. 고호가 한 점의 그림도 제대로 팔지 못해 어려운 삶을 살았다는 이야기를 읽게 되었고 그가 추구한 것이 무엇인지 궁금해 져서 그의 그림들을 찾아 보게 되었습니다. 고호가 그린 그림들을 살펴보다가 그가 그렸던 7점의 해바라기 그림들과 그가 즐겨 그린 태양 사이의 연관성을 생각해 보게 되었습니다. 태양처럼 강한 빛을 추구하던 자신의 마음을 고호가 늘 해를 따라가는 해바라기 그림 속에 담았다는 생각을 해보았습니다. 그의 그림을 살 수는 없었기에 동네 편의점에 가서 그의 대표작인 해바라기 그림 속에 있는 15 송이의 해바라기처럼 저도 15 송이의 해바라기를 사서 집에 있는 화병에 고호가 그린 그림에 따라 꽂아 보았습니다. 기록으로 남기기 위해 꽃 병에 제가 꽂은 해바라기 사진을 찍어 두었습니다.
해바라기 그림을 바라보면서 해바라기에 대한 몇가지 묵상을 할 수 있었습니다. 먼저 한 순간도 쉬지 않고 빛을 향하여 움직이는 해바라기의 모습을 생각해 보았습니다. 저도 참 빛 되신 예수님을 믿고 사는 사람이니 해바라기처럼 주님만 바라 보고 산다면 해바라기가 햇빛을 받고 자라나 풍성한 씨를 가을에 맺듯이 제 인생도 더 열매 맺는 삶이 될 수 있음을 묵상해 보았습니다. 두번째로 해바라기가 해가 지는 황혼에는 지는 해를 따라 서쪽을 바라보게 되지만 밤 사이에 해가 뜨는 동쪽으로 움직여서 아침에 다시 동쪽에 뜰 해를 맞이할 준비를 하는 모습을 생각해 보았습니다. 마치 제 인생의 암흑과 같은 어려운 시기에 오히려 주님을 더 바라보며, 주님을 맞을 준비를 해야 함을 해바라기가 저에게 가르쳐 주고 있다는 생각이 들었습니다. 마지막으로 해는 뜰 때가 있고 질 때가 있지만 하나님과 예수님의 빛은 지는 일이 없이 영원 하시니 얼마나 큰 축복인가 생각하며 더욱 감사해야 함을 묵상해보았습니다. 더 나아가 하나님과 예수님이 참 빛이 되셔서 더이상 다른 등불도 햇빛도 필요 없는 천국을 더욱 소망해 보는 기회가 되었습니다.
요한 계시록 22:5
다시 밤이 없겠고 등불과 햇빛이 쓸 데 없으니 이는 주 하나님이 그들에게 비치심이라. 그들이 세세토록 왕 노릇하리도다.
